You’ve already been through a lot, I guess. It seems like there’s no single option that’s not been explored. Why even bother ? Why continue looking for a sustainable solution ? There are countless possibilities how you end up with a whiplash injury. And sometimes, viewed from the outside world, circumstances may not have been dramatic. Some don’t even realise that their symptoms are linked to a whiplash.

First: there is nothing in our body that is not connected to its control unit, the brain  : in a structural and functional way.

Second: the control unit works simultaneously on different layers. There’s a brilliant operations unit running the organic high-tech device. And we still don’t really know how that works. The other layer is the one where we interfere and consciously start to use the body we got in order to accomplish something: it takes top performance of both layers to thrive.

Third: whiplash associated disorders always involve connective tissue injuries. Even if there tends to be controversy, technological progress begins to make those injuries visible. A window of visibility on MRI stretches from the 3rd to max. 30th day after the incident, showing bone bruising, joint effusion and minor bleedings. Chronification of the symptoms goes with sustained muscle tension and myofascial contraction. Sixth: the question really is: why won’t the brain let go of the contraction order although the life threatening incident is over ? And why won’t the self-regenerating system do its job and heal the injuries ? The answer is simple: from the brains perspective it's not over yet. The survival program which set temporarily irrelevant programs in standby mode - such as digestion, self-regeneration, cognition and so on - got stuck with the effects of traumatic stress. Traumatic stress is an automated coping program. It alters the way in which the brain works in general and processes info in particular: the bi-hemispheric functionality of the brain gets compromised. Stress hormone cortisol blocks neural pathways: the glitch. The outcome of SPECT- and PET-imaging based whiplash research indicates cerebral hypoperfusion and hypometabolism.
